Shadowrun 5E? reprised

Anyone out there familiar with the character creation. I've been invited into a game and I'm thinking of making a Mystic Adept (yeah I know, I'm crazy like that) - but I've never ever played before and I need advice on setting up the priorities and building the character.


Ok, so here's my tentative set up:

Priorities:

Metatype: D
the book seems a bit unclear why you need to set this rating except to have the minimum rating to play the race you want. With this priority I get +0 special attributes So no bonus other than the base ones for being an Elf.

Attributes: B
from what I understand of the system "skill" pools are derived from combining your relevant attribute and skill into a pool, and it makes sense to have plenty of natural talent.

Magic: A
this will set my Mystic Adept with a strong base in her focus area. I am sort of curious though if it wouldn't make more sense to swap Attributes and Magic and be slightly weaker and have fewer spells, but more room for growth so that I have a better focus for learning the game.

Skills: C
skills would seem to grow fastest during play so these should progress rapidly and allow me to refine the skills I most use and add extras I find I need during play without throwing a lot of points around at skills I find I never use.

Resources: E
I assume a mystic adept doesn't need a lot of gear, perhaps a pistol and melee weapon and body armor if possible. Anything else can be collected from cash rewards and a bit of petty theft of downed foes.

what say you?

Is kind of what most people suggested after some chats.

So how do I split up these points? What skills should I absolutely take? What gear should I absolutely buy? What spells should I absolutely know? I don't have any resources besides the main book atm, my local shop hasn't been having much luck getting Street Magic or Run Faster (I think it was called for more gear and what-not for 5E) into the store so I'm still waiting on those resources. I don't want to pick anything from them before I have those resources.
