Lea’s Birthday Surprise.
The morning of Lea’s birthday she and Ornella were both rousted out of bed by several of their friends. First they were dressed up as Dancing Slaves, and then they were rushed through the streets to a blacksmith who was an early riser. After their friends tossed the smith some coins he hammered out some collars and fitted them around the girl’s necks. Then he took out a length of chain and linked one end of it into Lea’s collar, and the other into Ornella’s collar. With that done their friends pushed them out into the streets and told them to not come back until the next sunrise. The girls tried to protest but their friends simply turned and walked away, leaving the girls with nothing but their dancing clothes and each other.
While they debated what to do, a handsome young sailor walked by giving them a wink. They giggled, and then gave him an impromptu little dance. He grinned as he watched, fishing some coppers out of his purse and tossing to them. They managed to trade those, and another dance, to a baker for a freshly baked loaf of bread and some butter. They sat down next to a water fountain and took sips of the clear cold water in between munching their breakfast.
They spent the rest of the daylight hours wandering through the city, playing the role of starving dancing girls, and they made quite a few coins from the men who stopped to watch them - and a few ladies stopped as well. Sometimes how-ever they found themselves being berated by those ladies and got chased off, but they just laughed as they ran off to find more adventure and spend their coins on drink and snacks.
By evening they found themselves at a tavern they’d never been in before – a good idea because they didn’t want to be recognized, one with a middle-eastern harem motif. They danced for the patrons and found themselves plied with drinks and small coins all through the night.
