Artist's Comments

AzureSky was a young warrior, but she'd managed to find the mystical artifact known as The Silver Paw that greatly enhanced her fighting talents. She wandered the world seeking out challenges that would further her understanding of how to use it.

DAZ studio: Aiko3 and having fun playing with the surfaces feature. Not sure why the shadows didn't work on this one, it took about 6 hours to render, which is about what it takes to render a scene WITH them if the scene is especially complicated for some reason. :p

NEEDS MORE CAT ATTRIBUTES FOR MORE PAGEVIEWS.

Were you using Cyclorama (Or whatever it is that DAZ calls it)?
I think the reason your shadows failed is because, if you were using Cyclorama, then the shadows bounced of that, instead of bouncing of your figures inside of it.
Also remember that certain shader mats take additional time to render fully.

Okay, that's the commentary from the peanut gallery.
:stfu: noa, 'kay?

Hm, used a DAZ stock environment they gave away with the 2.0 update. I made sure that the spot I used wasn't behind the back wall or anything, but you are probably right that it's being blocked by the environment somehow. THAT would account for it taking "shadows on" render time and yet not getting any. I may try using a diff environment and re-rendering it. I have some shaders, but I haven't used any yet. One of the things I'm still learning about, so that's not it. Though I'm guessing part of the render time was using the ponytail hairs surface mat on the cat-tail. I was pretty pleased with the long-hair look it gave the tail.

Lol! More than the ears, tail, whiskers and mouth? :) Though I craft my characters for MY enjoyment of them, and if they appeal to others too, then it's all good.

No, DAZ is pretty good about retexting and bump-mapping.
But yeah, I think something in your environment might be blocking shadows.
I know that the lights in Dystopia can be blocked by the sets Skydome figure.

very awesome render. like the outfit
:iconwickedprince:
*nods* I'll have to putter with it a bit more perhaps.
:icon0343depblack:
Yea, verily.
The only thing I can think of is that the opacity of the dome prop might be too high.
Then again, I've tried setting the Skydome to around 10%, and STILL, no shadows...
...unless they were supposed to be reflected off the INTERIOR of the dome?
After that I'm stumped.

I don't think there's a dome in the set. I mean there isn't an obvious ceiling or roof to the scene at all, it's an open-sky set very much like the others I've used. I actually don't have ANY sets that have a sky to them. It came in a separate batch, which makes me suspect it somewhat. But something definitely happened because it shouldn't have taken that many hours to render unless it was TRYING to figure out the shadows. I don't really understand how the lights work well enough yet to mess with things other than intensity and color settings. Normally I use a stock light set, if that came with something that they were calling a spotlight I replace it with one from the studio to make sure I have one that will work since most of the Poser light sets all end up being converted to distant lights regardless of what they were intended to be in Poser.
